- And of course, the Alumni Summit
Alumni Council
Now in its seventh year, the Alumni Council is an application-based, volunteer-led team dedicated to keeping alumni connected and supported across Canada.
This year, the Council focused on making engagement easier, more personal, and more relevant than ever:
- Launched the first-ever Alumni Notion page to centralize events, programming, and resources.
- Piloted alumni-led group conversations on the Together mentorship platform.
- Used cohort-specific communications to ensure every invite felt tailored, not generic.
- Completed a comprehensive update of 500+ alumni records.
- Delivered 22 alumni events across Canada.
Redefining How We Gather
Instead of sticking to a rigid calendar, regional alumni directors started asking: “What would be useful or fun right now?” The result: a more personal, flexible approach to connection.
- Coffee chats
- Virtual co-working sessions
- Beach and park picnics
- Just for Laughs live taping
- Mario Kart tournament
Directors had the freedom to meet alumni where they are—literally and figuratively. Whether it was a casual coffee or a Mario Kart night in Ottawa, the goal was simple: create space for authentic connection > forced networking.
Staying Connected Through Mentorship
The mentorship platform remains a backbone of alumni engagement.
Led by Alumni Council Co-Chair Mateo Peralta, it helps alumni stay connected no matter where they are. Over 120 alumni use the platform to share advice, talk through big decisions, refer one another for jobs, and keep ties strong across cohorts and geographies.
It’s built for busy lives, making sure even those outside major hubs can stay part of the VFC community.
“VFC Fellowship has truly been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. This community has introduced me to some of the compassionate, hardworking, and brilliant individuals I know and I’ll always be grateful to have them in my corner.”

A Community That Pays It Forward
Alumni aren’t just graduates—they’re partners in building what comes next.
They mentor Fellows, hire within the network, share opportunities, and shape the future of VFC, ensuring our programming remains relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
They’re brand ambassadors who show what VFC can unlock, helping attract new Fellows and employers. They’re employers themselves, creating career paths for the next generation. And they’re future donors and champions—investing back in the community that helped launch them.
