Interns say it all

"Entrepreneurial skills are the cornerstone of the future of work. In a world filled with uncertainties, skills like strategic thinking, effective communication, leadership, and crisis management are our best bet for turning uncertainties into opportunities to grow and succeed.

These are the skills I developed during my internship experience with Venture for Canada. The internship helped me gain knowledge and develop my passion for renewable energy. These skills allowed me to take on greater responsibilities during my internship, which led to opportunities I would not have had.

These experiences and skills have translated beyond the workplace and classroom and have become a key component of my everyday life. The future of work covers a wide array of topics and areas of focus, but entrepreneurial skills can and should be applied everywhere to maximize the opportunities we are given to create a lasting impact on society."

"VFC is a great organization for young adults to explore and participate in opportunities at Canadian startups and small businesses that might not otherwise be possible. Being able to gain access to a plethora of virtual courses to upskill and connect with other like-minded individuals facilitated my ideal path of growth.

Through my work experience with VFC, I have become more confident in applying my skills to build effective and sustainable impact strategies in sectors that might not otherwise think twice about it.

As a bonus, I've had the pleasure of meeting lifelong friends along the way. In an age of precarity, the entrepreneurial skills of being able to take risks to change the status quo and create value in new ways will be important for the future of work."

"Through the VFC Internship Program, I learned more about the value of entrepreneurship and the importance of communication and leadership. I also learned to collaborate with others and work creatively in solving complex problems. I developed entrepreneurial skills during my internship, which made me more confident to go after my goals and dreams.

Knowing that I don't have to come from a wealthy family to be successful has sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. It pleases my mind to know that I have an equal opportunity to make my family wealthy through the skills I learn and the connections I make in my entrepreneurship journey. Thanks to the VFC Internship program, I have become a more tenacious, focused, and visionary person with a thirst for lifelong learning."

"My internship through the VFC exposed me to many different aspects of a business. The small company size meant that I had the flexibility to explore my passions and had lots of one-on-one time with my supervisor and mentors. I pursued my passion for data analytics which helped me secure my next internship.

I always received high-quality feedback and had the opportunity to develop my weaker skills. VFC online resources and learning opportunities allowed me to continue learning at my own pace over the summer.

Many companies strive for a leaner, more horizontal structure and cross-functional decision-making approaches. Understanding many different elements of a business allows employees to contribute to organization-wide coordination. An entrepreneurial spirit helps employees improve on existing ideas and incorporate new initiatives and technologies into existing models. This innovation and flexibility is imperative for businesses to survive in the future."
